Our Pastor

Pastor Joshua J. Archey came to Crossroads Presbyterian Church in September 2019 as Intern to the Rev. Dr. John H. Pavelko, who pastored he congregation from 2000 until his retirement in June 2020. Upon Pastor John’s retirement, Pastor Josh continued to pastor the church, first as Pulpit Supply, and since October 1, 2020, as Commissioned Ruling Elder, or Lay Pastor, in the Presbyterian Church (USA). The son of an Air Force officer father and school teacher mother, Pastor Josh grew up living all over the country and the world, being born in Valdosta, Georgia, and later living in Germany, Texas, Michigan, Oregon, Israel, and New York, before returning to live in Michigan again in 2011. Pastor Josh was formed in the faith through his family’s membership in the United Methodist Church, first at Manchaca United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas, and later, at First United Methodist in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He also attended his maternal grandparents’ church, Cooper Congregational Church outside Kalamazoo, for large portions of every summer prior to his family’s permanent move to Michigan in 1993. In graduate school, Pastor Josh and his future wife, Dawn Archey, PhD, were members of Central Presbyterian Church in Eugene, Oregon, and active members of the Presbyterian Campus Ministry at the University of Oregon, the Koinonia Center, where Josh served as a student Board member and visited friends and members of the church in the hospital weekly as a volunteer.

After two years living in Israel, where Dawn completed a post-doctoral fellowship, Dawn and Josh returned to the U.S., where Josh spent the next several years as the stay at home parent to son Peter, and later, daughter Hannah. In 2011, now back in Michigan, Pastor Josh and family joined First Presbyterian Church of Farmington, where, in 2013, Josh was asked to become a Ruling Elder, and serve on the Session, or governing body of the church. In 2014, Josh was hired as the part-time Director of Christian Education and continued his journey further into the ministry. In 2018, after a period of discernment, Josh stepped down from his role as Director of Christian Ed. to become the church’s Pastoral Care Intern while he studied to become a Commissioned Ruling Elder, or Lay Pastor, in the Presbyterian Church (USA). In summer 2019, his search for a place to complete his capstone internship led him to Crossroads Presbyterian Church.

From a very early age, my faith came from my conviction that God is a powerful presence in our lives. I was born eleven weeks prematurely in 1979, and thanks to God and the amazing doctors at Southwest Georgia Medical Center and the U.S. Air Force, I was medevac’d at just 9 days old from Georgia to the Air Force’s Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where I remained on a ventilator for seven and a half weeks, and in the hospital for most of my first year of life. My parents named me Joshua after Joshua in the Bible because I fought the battle to survive and won. God works in marvelous ways, and I feel truly blessed to have found a home at Crossroads! Please feel free to reach out to me at josharchey@crossroadspc.org.

Peace and Grace,
Pastor Josh
